Mass Psychosis
Mass Psychosis is a band from North Jersey that was around back in the 90's and when I heard they had reformed I emailed Doug from the band an interview and here is what he and other band member Tom said to my questions:
MC: Give me a quick band history.
DOUG: BIN DOING THE SHIT SINCE '88, STILL DOING IT RIGHT IF ANYBODY WANTS TO
SEE OR HEAR DONE RIGHT GO TO YOUTUBE.COM TYPE IN MASS PSYCHOSIS AND HAVE A LOOK
AND SEND US A COMMENT
MC: I read you recently reformed. How did this come about and how many of the
original members are in the band now?
DOUG: WELL IT STARTED AS THE LAST
LINE UP OF MP BUT, JOHN DISAPPEARED AGAIN AND LEFT US HOLDING ARE DICKS. SO
WE RECRUITED LONG TIME FRIEND ANDY SCALERA FROM BACK IN THE OLD DAYS WHO WE
MET UP WITH AGAIN AND HE WAS THE RIGHT ONE FOR THE JOB. SO THAT ROUNDS OF TO
TOM, DOUG, ANDY AND VIC!
MC: How did the band end up breaking up the 1st time and was this something
that most of the members at the time knew was coming?
DOUG: HAD NO FUCKING CLUE JOHN WIGED OUT AND WENT WITH HIS EX-GIRL FRIENDS BAND
WE WE'RE LEFT HANGING CAUSE WE WOULD REHEARSED AT HIS HOUSE AND TOLD US AT THE
LAST MOMENT TO GET OUR STUFF OUT!!!
MC: From back in the day what are some of the great times you can remember
the band had?
DOUG: OOOFFF WHERE DO WE START FROM ONE OF OUR DRUNK ROADIES PUTTING HIS COCK
IN ANOTHER ROADIES MOUTH BACK STAGE AT A SHOW! WE ENJOYED EVERY FUCKING MOMENT
WE HAD AND WE WISH EVERY ONE WE KNEW COULD SEE ALL THE FUCKING PUSSY WE GOT
AS A DEATH METAL BAND
MC: What were some of the bands you shared the stage with do you have a favorite
show?
DOUG: WELL WE PLAYED WITH RIPPING CORPSE MORBID ANGEL OVERKILL PRO-PAIN VITAL
REMAINS CORPSE GRINDER EXTERMINANCE AT THE GATES TO LIST A FEW AND ONE OF OUR
FAV SHOWS WAS WITH NAPALM DEATH
MC: I have your one CD, are there any other CDS floating around?
DOUG: ARE YOU FUCKIN KIDDING ???? WHICH ONE DO YOU HAVE IS IT FACE OR NECRO
AND WE KNOW IT ISN'T MP-3 WHICH IS FORTH-COMING
MC: When can we expect to hear some material and what will it be like?
DOUG: AS SOON AS WE GET THE VOCALS RECORDED WE WILL HAVE NEW MUSIC IN '09 AND
IT WILL SOUND LIKE MASS PSYCHOSIS STRONGER TIGHTER AND HARD AND HEAVIER 12 YR..

MC: Do you miss the days of writing letters and sending CDS out with various
flyers from other bands and zines?
DOUG: FUCK NO!!! BECAUSE WHEN WE HAD GARBAGE BAGS FULL OF MAIL EVERY GODDAMN
DAY THAT SHIT SUCKED! NOW AT THE CLICK OF A BUTTON WE COULD LET EVERY ONE KNOW
WHAT'S GOING ON AND THEY CAN GET BACK TO US THE SAME DAY!! WHAT A NICE NEW WORLD
MC: Do you feel that most of the reviews you got back in the day were fair
and accurate?
DOUG: 50/50 BUT THE GOOD ONE'S OUT WEIGHED THE BAD AND IF THEY WERE BAD OR GOOD
IT DID NOT EFFECT US IN ANYWAY BECAUSE WE WRITE MUSIC WE LIKE AND IF SOMEONE
ELSE ENJOYS IT THAT'S COOL!
MC: Did you have any label interest back in the day?
DOUG: WELL YES WE DID WE HAD A FEW
7' DEALS WITH MINOR LABELS AND THEN WE HAD A MAJOR LABEL DEAL WITH KOCH INTER.
FOR OUR FACE CD. BUT BACK IN THE DAY HEAVY MUSIC WAS NEW TO KOCH AND THEN WE
LOST OUR A&R GUY WHO PUT THE DEAL TOGETHER FOR US AND THE WHOLE FUCKIN THING
FELL APART. THEN WE HAD A DEAL WITH STILL DEAD RECORDS IN POLAND TO PUT OUT
THE "NECROPORNO" CD WHICH WE GOT FUCKED ON, BUT WE DID GET A NICE
PACKAGE AND DISTRO FROM THEM.
MC: With all this different technology, how do you plan on using it to promote
the band?
DOUG: YOUTUBE.COM WERE WE HAVE A SHIT LOAD
OF LIVE VIDEOS UP. AND WE HAVE OUR MYSPACE PAGE PLUS OUR WEB SITE "MASSPSYCHOSIS.NET"
MC: What was it like when the new line-up went and practiced for the 1st time.
What is it like playing some of the old tunes?
DOUG: IT WAS FUN BUT WE REALLY ARE FOCUSING ON OUR NEW STUFF THE OLD STUFF IS
COOL BUT WE'VE CHANGED SO MUCH THAT WE REALLY DIG OUR NEW MATIERIAL
MC: How did you come up with your name?
DOUG: ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING? WE WERE PSYCHOSIS THEN SOME SCUMBAGS FROM NH
HAD TRADEMARKED THE NAME AFTER WE HAD MUSIC ALL READY OUT FOR YEARS AND THERE
LAWYERS TOLD US THAT WE CAN'T USE THE NAME ANYMORE SO WE ADDED MASS WHICH MEANS
MORE OR GREATER WHICH WE ARE!!!
MC: Did any of the band members join other bands after Mass Psycosis broke
up?
DOUG: YES JOHN Z LIKE WE SAID EARLIER HE WENT ON TO PLAY WITH HIS EX-GIRLFRIEND
BAND. BUT DOUG AND TOM KEPT ON PLAYING AND WRITING MUSIC STILL TO THIS DAY
MC: Is there any merchandise for sale?
DOUG: WELL RIGHT NOW WE HAVE BOTH OF OUR CDS FOR SALE AT OUR WEBSITE MASSPSYCHOSIS.NETAND
WE HAVE NEW TEE-SHIRTS ON THE WAY PLUS OTHER STUFF TOO
MC: What are your thoughts on thrash metal making a comeback of sorts?
DOUG: I DON'T THINK SO. I THINK NEW METAL IS MORE OF THE WAY THINGS ARE GOING
SO THAT'S WHY I'M GONNA GO THE OTHER WAY.
TOM: I THINK MORE SO OF SORTS CAUSE THERE ISN'T REALLY ANY NEW BANDS DOING IT, IT'S MORE SO A LOT OF OLDER BANDS GOING BACK TO THERE ROOTS WHICH IS KIND OF COOL AND STAYING TRUE!!!
MC: How has the response been on your My Space page. Are many old fans coming
back into the fold as well as new fans discovering the band?
DOUG - ABSOLUTELY AND YOU TELL THESE MFS TO STOP CALLING ME ON MY CELL 7322618030!!!!LOLMF!!!!
TOM: IT'S BEEN THE BEST OF THE 2 WORLDS "OLD AND NEW"

MC: What are the goals for the band if there is any?
DOUG: SAME AS ABOVE AND HAVE FUCKIN KILLER TIME DOING IT WITH ALL OF OUR FANS
AND FRIENDS PLUS WORLD DOMINATION WOULD BE NICE!!!!!!!!
